MILITARY ADDRESSING TIPS
Use your service members full name, military organization or unit, and complete APO/FPO address.
However, do NOT include:
>Rank - such as Sgt. or Capt.
>The Country name - use APO/FPO address only.
Under current security precautions, mail addressed to "Any Service Member" will not be accepted nor delivered.
If you are sending a Care Package, please remember the following:
>The Address Label must have a personal return address.
>Most countries have restrictions on what item may be sent.
>If you have questions, check with your local post offfice.
Below are some general guidelines of restricted items. Again for more specifics, contact your local post office.
Iraq, Afghanistan & Kuwait - Liquids, books & printed items that are fundamentally or generally contrary to the teaching of the Islamic faith, magazines or any pictures of nude or semi-nude persons (i.e. Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue).
Do not send Alcohol or tobacco products, or perishable items such as fresh fruit.
Packaging Tips
The USPS will provide FREE boxes and packing supplies, including tape, for all priority mail services and some other selected materials for spouses and families of active duty service personel deployed overseas. You can order some supplies online at www.usps.com or call 1-800-610-8734.
Items available include boxes, packing material, tape, mailing labels and custom forms, all delivered to your door at no cost.
Don't forget you will have to complete a customs form in detail for almost any package you send overseas, so keep an inventory handy as you pack.
A reminder. On your customs form there is a space for the country's name you are sending to. Leave it blank. The USPS delivers by the zip code, and the military delivers by the APO/FPO address. No one else needs to know what country the package is destined.
